Fireplaces sure are warm and cozy, aren't they?
Actually, no. For those of you who've never lived with a fireplace, or who, like me, tend to substitute romantic notions about fireplaces for memories of actual experiences, here's a reminder.
Your average home fireplace is meant to be decorative or recreational rather than a source of heat for your house. When you light a fire, the rest of the heat in your place is very likely to be sucked right up the chimney and out of the house, leaving you sitting in front of your cute little blaze freezing your chestnuts off.
